Chroma sampling refers to the form of compression where the chroma, or colour part of a video signal is reduced in resolution as compared to the luma, or brightness information. Almost all video sources use this form of compression, and while moderate amounts can go un-noticed, the more extreme amounts used in DV and HDV can produce visual nasties.
Our research has produced great results with NTSC DV 4:1:1 video. See the end of this article, on chroma sampling, for an example of our results. |
